Bladder Cancer

In known history of bladder cancer, it was researched by a German physician named Ludwig Rehn, and was known for over one hundred and fifty years ago. He investigated causes, symptoms, and other types of healing for the disease. He took part in identifying his research of urogenital react tumors where he became very skilled in. In 2010 another doctor named Dr. Elizabeth Guancial, she took Dr. Ludwig Rehn research and looked far more into detail that she received an award for Bladder Cancer Research. Bladder cancer is one of the most diagnosed cancers in the world.

In theory, about 71,000 people will develop bladder cancer each year, and more than 12,000 of them will die because this disease. It is said to be the most common in Caucasian males rather than in any other race. National Cancer Institute is shown that this will happen in most men than women at the age of 40 or older. As this develop, not many will know they have bladder cancer until symptoms is shown in the test. To obtain this disease it is linked to smoking, radiation, chemical exposure, and maybe a long line in history in family of cancer.

In the family, it does not have to be just bladder cancer it can be all sorts of type of cancer. In that case bladder cancer will affect the bladder walls and the urination tracks if not caught on time. This will cause blood in the urine, frequent urination, painful urination, back pain, and pelvic pains. It can spread through the fatty tissue where it can reach to other organs like the lungs, liver, (in men) the prostate, (in women) the uterus, and the women vagina.

The determination of its effect is by knowing how it will affect the person and where it will spread if not treated. It can be surgically removing the tumor (in early stage), removing part of the bladder if the tumor is out of the bladder detrusor muscle (middle stage), or removing the entire bladder creating a new way for the urine to leave the body (last stage). These removals can be rough but can be treated better once the cancer is out. It is also treated depending on a number of factors, including the type of stage of the cancer, and you over all health and age.

It will destroy the inner urothelium which will grow if not treated to the outer muscle and will break out cancer cells that can cause other cancers in your body and spread though out the organs. Bladder cancer is curable only when diagnosed early enough where the tumor can be treated and removed; it also carries a poor prognosis in the bladder. The medication that is use to help “cure” this disease is using chemotherapy and immunotherapy medication. Chemotherapy medication is use to destroy cancer cells are called gemcitabine, cisplatin, mitomycin, MVAC combination of methotrexate, vinblastine, doxonbicin, and cisplatin.

The immunotherapy medication that is use to help the immune system are called Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG), and interferon. The side effects of the medication of the drugs that is used for the cancer is that chemotherapy medication causes nausea and vomiting. As for the immunotherapy medication can cause dizziness, light headiness, and weakness. There are many other medications that patients have around the house that they can take with the medication to help with the nausea, vomiting, dizziness, etc. , but ask the doctors before taking them.

The dosage should not exceed what the doctor prescribed to their patients because if taken too many then consult with patients doctor. Bladder cancer is sometime fatal if the tumor is not caught on time. Most likely about half of the 71,000 people will die from this disease. In this case Caucasian men are more likely to die of this disease then Caucasian woman where they have much higher rate than any other race. The line of cancer in the family can also be passed down from generation to generation even if it is a certain type of cancer, anyone can have it.

Like various cancers, bladder cancer is hereditary. Even though in family with the history of having bladder cancer than some other cancers, patients with histories can sometimes have it. Sometimes the risk factor does not follow up with just ones genetics. The risk factor is based on race (Caucasian are more at-risk than other races), gender (males have an increased risk), tobacco use, chromic bladder infections and inflammation, exposure to certain toxic chemicals, and previous treatment for cancer.

The statistics of the condition of bladder cancer tells me that “The American Cancer Society” had estimated recently in the United States that about 73,510 American people where diagnosed with bladder cancer and about 14,880 of them died because of it. Mainly it occurs in elderly; about 9 out of 10 people over the age of 55 had cancer. They said to be that it had been over easy that more than 500,000 people in the United States are bladder cancer survivors.
