Many may or may not be surprised to know the number one killer in America for both men and women is heart disease. America has become increasingly over weight by over eating, eating unhealthy and not getting enough exercise. We have been alerted that each year we are becoming more and more obese at a alarming rate. Heart disease has been known to kill more people than any of the cancers combined by causing heart attacks and strokes. There are many causes to heart disease by choices we make like smoking and eating unhealthy but also we can be born with a heart disease.
Some common heart diseases are Cardiovascular disease, Congenital heart disease, and Coronary heart disease. Smoking, although a common thing we see today, may result in a heart disease. Smokers actually breathe in four thousand toxic chemicals into their cardiovascular system that disables most organ functions involving the heart, which can cause cardiovascular disease. Coronary heart disease is the main cause of heart attacks due to build up in the blood vessels. By having blockage in the passage way, the blood supply to the heart is stopped causing long term damage.
Fats in the blood as well as those who smoke cigarettes and tobacco are just twice as likely to have the symptom. Since there are many different types of heart diseases, there are many different types of symptoms, there isn’t just one particular form. Congenital heart disease stated earlier is just the basic heart disease as a result of not having enough exercise, eating unhealthy foods, smoking, and/or possibly could be hereditary. Congestive heart failure consist of when the heart can’t pump enough blood causing the organs to shut down.
Congestive heart failure places you at a higher risk if you are prone to have higher blood pressure and consume large amounts of alcohol. Victims of heart disease usually die before its known they had a heart disease, generally they had no idea. There are relatively no signs or symptoms of heart disease. Heart disease is a slow process that is undetected unless a blood test is done or you know your family history and know if you’re prone to have it in your genetics. One thing people don’t seem to know is it is very preventable and easy to avoid just by eating correctly and exercise.
Even those who are skinnier aren’t immune to a heart disease because they may not have enough exercise and healthy diet. There are several ways to prevent heart disease and reduce ones risk. Controlling blood pressure by taking medications is a one way to reduce the risk of heart disease and a more common way of doing so. High cholesterol can cause heart disease which is a result from eating fatty foods and tends to get worse as you age or without getting exercise. Smoking is a way cholesterol can effect a person’s heart by blockage making it harder to breathe.
Heart disease can also be a genetic factor through family members that may not have even known about it. Cholesterol can be lowered by eating fruits and vegetables while doing exercise and taking the right medications. Genetic testing is currently underway to determine if a person is more liable to have a heart attack. Through what they call “Genotyping”, researchers are trying to make it so one can find out just by having a blood test done to determine if one is 50% more liable for a heart attack just by looking at your family genetic history.
Researchers have been working to discover treatments for cardiovascular disease by looking at specific genes and mutations within our body’s cells. Genetic testing is used to see if one has a genetic defect that leads to heart attack in their family blood line and to see how drugs and treatments will work depending on how their DNA is constructed. Genetic tests search for variants in the tests that show the more variants you’re more likely to have a heart attack. This research could be helpful in the future to prevent heart disease and warn those who do have it to eat healthy and exercise.
Cholesterol in the United States have been at a record all time high with Coronary Heart disease (CHD) among young adults. Previous screenings in the past have shown lower rates for higher cholesterol in younger people in the nation. Even though young, the younger generation is recommended to be tested even if they aren’t at risk for CHD. Every younger person tested will have different results, every factor possible should be screened even without high cholesterol and should still watched for future guidelines.
National health, nutrition health, and examination surveys in 1999 through 2006 estimated around the nation, 2,587 young males varying from 20 to 35 and young females ageing from 20 to 45, had a heart disease.. High low density lipoprotein cholesterol have been tested to have higher levels to be expected for coronary heart disease risk category recorded in the national cholesterol adult program. The results are concluded that 59% of young adults have been affected by Coronary heart disease and had shown risk factors involving family history from smoking and obesity.
The research concluded was half, it was no different between younger adults who had risk factors compared to those who had a slighter chance of higher cholesterol and CHD. The highest percentage for younger adults with CHD is 65% . The rest concluded 26% of young adults had 2 or more risk factors, 12% of young adults with 1 risk factor, and 7% of the younger adults had no risk factor had a high level of LDL-C (high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol), which is common in younger adults, but doesn’t change percentage rates of screening.
Although heart disease is the number one killer in America, we are working our way to a healthier nation by researching Genotyping and promoting healthy eating and enough exercise to everyone. Many people who have heart disease don’t even know until they have a heart attack or even die and that is why it’s important to know how preventable it actually is. As the increasing number of people with a heart disease rapidly grows, many more are taking necessary precautions to protect themselves from risk while researchers discover ways to predict ones outcome.
