A career in the health care industry has always been very attractive to me because of my inherent desire to help sick people. One of the best spectacles that a compassionate person could behold is watching ailing persons make their slow road to recovery. For example, every slight discernible improvement in a patient who has been forced to remain in bed by an illness is a source of delight for one who has contributed something to that patient’s process of recuperation. Unfortunately for people like me who wants to help but could not stand the sight of blood, being a surgeon or a nurse is out of the question.
This condition, however, should not be an obstacle for one who is really possessed by a strong desire to help sick people because there are plenty of alternative fields which are just as essential. It only takes one visit to a doctor for one to know that pharmacy is one of the best alternatives. Because when a doctor who has just prescribed a treatment for a complaint is asked if his recommended medicine would not have any adverse reaction to some medication that that particular patient is taking for a different condition, he would always tell the patient that he has to ask the pharmacist for the information.
Definitions available from any dictionary agree that pharmacy is the “science or profession of dispensing medicinal drugs” and a pharmacist is the person who is licensed to dispense and advise on the use of such drugs. This career, therefore, is as important as medicine, nursing, or any other medicine-related professions as far as helping sick people recover from their ailments is concerned. A job at a pharmacy which has enabled me to shadow the functions of a pharmacist has convinced me that this is true.

Before making their purchases, customers generally want the pharmacist to assure them if a certain medicinal drug could help ease their complaint or if a particular medicine would not have any adverse reaction/s to people with certain conditions. This has convinced me to choose pharmacy as a career. From all indications, pharmacy is the best way with which a person could help sick people without being a doctor or a nurse.
