USA is the only country which has not implemented universal healthcare plan for its citizens. Nowadays, many non industrialized nations have also started adopting it. At present few special underprivileged pockets of the population like the elderly people, poor section, disabled etc are taken care of by the government. This accounts for 27 percent of the total population. The rest of the population is not covered under the universal healthcare. The government spending is almost
45 percent of the total spending on healthcare, which is 15 percent of the GDP. ( universal healthcare) It is high time USA implements the universal healthcare because: 1. Despite having the best infra structure and trained staff for the medical profession, USA lacks behind other nations in providing healthcare services. 2. Providing universal healthcare will not be too expensive. In fact, it would save money as the administrative costs will be substantially reduced.
3. Currently access to health care is denied on the basis of ability to pay. Under the universal system, all would have access to all services. 4. It is not true that private corporate can only solve the problems of health care in USA. They work for profits only. Almost 30 percent of the earnings account for administrative charges and profits for the private sector. In the case of government agencies, this is mere 3 percent. 5. Almost 80 percent of citizens and 71 percent of doctors believe that the current system compromises on the quality of services. (Batista John R. , Maccabe Justine )
