Type A personality and its affect on health

Abstract

People suffering from Type A personality have got the tendency to suffer from heart diseases and as they suffer from massive job stress, they focus too little on social relationships, resulting in social isolation and more stress. Their chances of heart attack are more than other people. These people are characterized by aggressiveness and impatience. They become impulsive if told they had to wait in a line. People refer to them as rude and impatient guys. They are advised to be friendly towards the people around them.

People having type A personality are generally competitive and work-obsessed and this nature can develop many health related problems among them in the future. From their behavior general people call them rude and impatient. This has been stated in the website http://stress.about.com/od/understandingstress/a/type_a_person.htm. Their main characteristics are impatience or time urgency and aggressiveness.

People having type A personality can suffer from many health related problems like hypertension, heart disease and social isolation. All these have been described in the above mentioned website. The website also states that these people suffer from high blood pressure and getting affected by heart disease once they reach the age of 65 is almost a certainty. As these people often land up in stressful jobs, they always suffer from massive job stress and hence spend very little time on social relationships, resulting in tremendous social isolation. That also brings more stress to that person.

To quote from the website http://www.answers.com/topic/type-a-personality  “After a nine-year study of over 3000 healthy men, aged 35-59, Friedman & Rosenman estimated that Type A behavior doubles the risk of coronary heart disease in otherwise healthy individuals.” It has been stated in the website that some scientists argue only the hostility factor is responsible for the associated risk factors, but the other characteristics of Type A are not.

To avoid these health related problems, Type A people are advised to be more positive in their thought patterns, have faith on the people around them and make work life less stressful. All these have been mentioned in the website http://stress.about.com/od/understandingstress/a/type_a_person_2.htm
