Unit/LO/AC |Date of Activity: Explain why personal hygiene is important. Keeps the body and hair free from infections, allowing the skin, nail and hair to be kept in good condition. Infection comes from eating, drinking, coughing, sneezing, sweating and elimination of urine and excretion. Also it is important for a person’s self esteem as a high standard of hygiene makes a person feel good, being clean, presentable and comfortable. Describe the effects of poor personal hygiene on health and well-being.
Bodily odours – This can leave a person feeling depressed due to smelling bad and could lead to isolation by society. Oral – Poor hygiene could lead to tooth decay and gum problems. Hands & feet – This can lead to infections, hands contain lots of germs especially the nails. So if they are not cleaned properly they can spread infections. There is a risk of athlete’s foot, where micro-organisms can grow in warm moist places like in between the toes.
