Negative effects of stress in students

Stress is a person’s response to a stressor situation such as environmental condition or an external stimulus. In other words, is a body’s way to react to a challenge or a stressful event. Stress typically describes a negative condition, but can also be a positive condition that can have an impact on a person’s mental and physical well-being. Stress symptoms may be affecting your health, even though you might not realize it.

You may think illness is to blame for that nagging headache, your frequent insomnia or your decreased productivity at work. But stress may actually be the culprit and if it isn’t treated can trigger bigger problems to your health. In this essay, I will talk about the negatives effects of stress on college students. As everyone knows, students are often exposed to stressful situations, such as exams, homework, long nights of study and the natural pressure for good grades and results.

Without count the stressful situations that are not related with school, such as family problems and personal problems. For these reasons we can easily affirm that students are one of the most stressed kind of people. Indeed, stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, your mood and behavior. Being able to recognize common stress symptoms can give you a jump on managing them. Stress that’s left unchecked can contribute to health problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity and diabetes.

Deepening even more in this issue, stress can change the way of student’s body works, for example, some of the negative effects to the body are: Headache, muscle pain, extremely tension, fatigue, sleep problems and etc. Stress is also really dangerous to your mood may causing: anxiety, restlessness, lack of motivation or focus, easily irritability or anger and sadness or depression. These symptoms can lead us to behavior’s changes, such as overeating or undereating, angry outbursts, drug or alcohol abuse, tobacco use, social withdrawal.

And the most important or maybe the worst effect to college students, the decrease of academic level, influencing on grades and performance. For these reasons we, students, must always be aware with stressful situations, trying to avoid or overcome them to accomplish our goals and enjoy our college’s experiences. Doing some activities that help us to manage the stress such as physical activities and all other kind of activities that we like and enjoy to do. And be sure to get plenty of sleep, eat a balanced diet, and avoiding abuses.
