PHYSICIAN SERVICES The persons eligible to receive physician services such as diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury, surgery, obstetrical care, eye examinations etc.

However they are not permitted for yearly physicals, cosmetic surgery, experimental services, prescription drugs, optometric services, dental services, etc. METIS HEALTH BENEFITS (MHB) In entire Canada, the NWT is only such jurisdiction, which provides supplementary health benefits for indigenous Metis residents. It is called Metis Health Benefits program (MHB). It provides additional health benefits similar to Non-insured Helathbenefits. In order to eligible to this program, the persons should be resident of the NWT and these should be registered under NWT Health care plan.

Besides, these should be descendent of Chipewyan, Slavey, Gwich’in, Dogrib, Hare or Cree people. The benefits such dental, eyeglasses, medical transportation, medical supplies and equipment and prescription drugs available in this scheme, as such these services not available NWT health care plan. These services organized by Alberta Blue Cross, which is a private, insurance company and works for and on behalf of Government of NWT. Besides, the prescription drugs and dental benefits to the senior persons also available under this scheme.

5) HEALTH CARE IN NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR It is a comprehensive plan of medical care insurance which designs to cover the cost of physician services for residents of the respective province. The Medical care Plan though introduced in 1969 but it was merged with the Department of Health and Community services. The physicians and making the treatment will submit their claims for insured services directly to MCP. Under this Medical Care Plan, the following medical services will be provided such as.

Visits to a physician’s office, hospital or beneficiary’s residence 2. Surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including anesthesia 3. Pre and postoperative care 4. Complete maternity care 5. Complete maternity care 6. Radiology interpretive services 7. Certain surgical dental procedures, which are medically necessary to be performed in hospital by dentist or oral surgeon. However the following services will not be provided under this health care. 1. Physician’s advice given by telephone.

Provision of medical appliances 4. Writing of prescriptions 5. Preparation of records, reports or certificates 6. Services available under other provincial or federal legislation 7. Physician’s travel time and expenses 8. Ambulance services or other transportation 9. Acupuncture and subsequent related services. 10. Surgery for cosmetic purposes 11. Physician’s testimony given in a court 12. Eye examinations for corrective lenses 13. Routine, in hospital, dental extractions 14. Hydrotherapy 15. Alcohol/drug dependency treatment outside Canada.
