Haiti is a country struggling to survive daily life and after the 2010 earthquake, struggles even more then before to maintain the health and wellbeing of its citizens. An overwhelmingly large percent of Haiti’s population lives below the poverty line and suffers form malnutrition, anemia and other diseases. Haiti has about 25 physicians and 11 nurses per 100,000 population. (Wikipedia. org) This is a very sad situation for the citizens of Haiti because the incident of disease is so high and medical care so low, one could imagine the mortality rate for disease that are other wise curable is unnecessarily high.
After researching quite a few cites I could not find a health plan for the Haitian citizens other than mandated access to healthcare. There are many organizations coming together to build hospitals, create jobs and promote better health and hygiene practices. It seems that health insurance is almost nonexistent in Haiti, with the population being so poor it is likely that the majority just cant afford insurance. Well over half of Haiti is unemployed and with employers being poor them selves health insurance just is not a resource that seems attainable.
That is why it is so important for organizations to come together and build jobs witch will in turn build the economy and make health insurance attainable to the citizens. While providing aid to Haiti is very much needed, Haiti also needs resources and access to knowledge to help them build jobs. Most Haitians are very ready to learn and work on building their community. It is vital that this country be taught and given the resources to rebuild. They are also in need of people willing to invest in building.
I think that the only way Haiti is going to get out of being on the low end of healthcare is to push their economy to grow. When thinking of a health plan one may only see the healthcare side of thing. It seems simple offer insurance and doctors and the people will come this however is not true you must first offer a better economy so the healthcare offered is of some quality, offer education to the public and jobs so the citizens can afford to receive the healthcare offered.
