Gifts for patients
As it is known, presents and attention of relatives always have a very positive impact on ill people and help them to go through the difficulties, caused by various diseases (Ways of giving 1). But for some people it is not so easy to choose the presents for the patients they are going to visit. In fact, the seriousness degree of disease and its duration can prompt visitors what gifts will be suitable and useful for the patients.
Taking into account all these facts, we can classify the following types of the most popular gifts which people usually take to their patients in the hospital: books, flowers, food and drinks, clothes, portable games, musical CD and etc.
It is not a secret that an interesting book is considered to be the one of the most wide-spread gifts all over the World. The point is that it is available almost for each patient excluding those who have eyesight problems (in this case eye-glasses will become the most suitable gift). But before buying a book, a visitor has to take into consideration the patient’s interests. There is no need to present serious books such as detective stories, love stories or other which can make people worry and even cry. For sick people, it is desirable to read funny stories, anecdotes, jokes and so on. In general, “light” reading, the journals of crosswords or riddles will be a good present both for children and adults.
Flowers are another type of popular presents especially for women. Nevertheless, some problems can emerge if you are going to take flowers in the hospital. For instance, in Great Britain visitors were forbidden to bring flowers to the patients of surgical department, because they can become the source of various infections. It should be emphasized that salt water in vases has splendid conditions for many bacteria and bunches of flowers themselves make cleaning process difficult. Also, spilled water can cause a huge damage to the medical devices.
Food and drinks presents the special type of gifts. On the one hand, these gifts can be very useful for patients, but on the other hand taking into account diseases the patients are suffered from it can be harmful too. So, it is better to consult a doctor before taking such type of presents in the hospital.
Talking about such type of gifts as clothes we can add that if a patient has to stay at the hospital for a long time the most pleasant present for him or her will be a beautiful new pajamas, slippers or convenient pillow.
As to the modern portable video games, it is clear that they can be the best present for children and young patients. In fact, the entertainments of this type can help the patients to forget about their diseases and therefore it allows to stop warring, that obviously improves the health and often leads to the quick healing.
At the same time, for some people music is suggested to be the most valuable thing in their life. So that, it is clear that for this category of people musical CD, player or may be headphones will be the most valuable gift. So, buying a CD for the patients who come under the given category of people, visitors have to know exactly what kind of music he or her likes to listen to and the songs of which groups the patient prefer most of all. Otherwise, all efforts will be idle and the gift will not make the patient happy.
Coming to the conclusion it should be also added that each case is individual and special at the same time. So, each type of presents is suitable for some special category of people. In order to make a good present visitors have to know and take into the consideration all personal features of the patient they are going to visit. But it is very important to know that despite all these features – love, respect and the special attention are always considered to be the most valuable presents almost for each patient.
