In the course of this research, it is apparent that osteoporosis is a major health issue not only among the elderly but in the all age groups because of its significance to the over-all health of an individual. Similarly the demand for calcium supplements and calcium-rich products, as well as nutrients that will enhance absorption such as vitamin D has grown. However, though this indicates greater awareness and commitment to improving health issues and prognosis, there are a number of health authorities that remain reserved in efficacy of calcium and vitamin D as a deterrent for bone-related diseases and conditions.
Their reservation stems from the extent of extraneous variables involved in the valuation of the effectiveness of both supplements and diet regimens that are programmed to meet calcium requirements. At the same time, there are opinions that the research supporting claims are more market driven rather than health driven. Regardless of these opinions, there is no denying the necessity of calcium as well as vitamin D in promoting health.
Ultimately, because of the quid pro quo nature of calcium and nutrient absorption needs, it has communicated to people that health is not just about having healthy food, there is also a need to eat foods specific to one’s nutritional needs. Furthermore, it has cultivated the value of preventive medicine and intervention on an individual level. Thus, whether calcium and vitamin D is accesses by supplementary or dietary means, they can both enhance the bone health and allow people to enjoy their lives to the fullest as they age.
