For my unit 2 assignment, I have chosen the Aetna Insurance Company. The Aetna Insurance Company is selling more insurance on the healthcare marketplace than any other insurance company. Aetna is working on insurance rates and trying to figure out if increases in rates are warranted for the following year. 16% of their revenue comes from individual policies adn companies. They aren’t worried about their revenue or impact on their business becasue of this. The articles go on to say that most americans will purchase insurance through the marketplace exchange (Obamacare) by the year 2020 and most of that will happen through private employers.
The only problems people will run into are if they need Mental Health care. Mental Health services will begin to be harder to find. The reason for this is there will be a shortage of Psychiatrists, Social Workers, and Psychologists leaving their professions. Access to healthcare will be through the local DHHS offices, online, and over the phone. The problems with that is over the phone is being put on hold for periods of time just to have a question answered and hoping you get the right one. Online, you are able to access more information and read about what is going on.
Any questions you have, you can just type into the computer and come up with several answers from the insurance company website itself or from other sites. The problem with the local DHHS office is when you get there you have to wait a while just to talk to someone in person. If that’s not bad enough, when you call them on the phone, you will be on hold longer than if you were to call the insurance company itself. And then, hope they have the answer for you if they don’t direct you to call somewhere else or ask someone else. This is very frustrating for any one of us.
As for healthcare quality, hopefully you get to stay with the same doctors and hospitals you have had all along. This makes it much easier because your records and health information don’t have to be transferred anywhere and you can rest assurd that you can stay with the Physician and nurses you have grown accustomed to. Trends affecting healthcare are run-up of health insuance costs, competition causing the hospitals to try and reduce costs, and the growth in health care spending is abundant. Providers are being pressured to cut costs and this will decrease the quality of care by them.
Insurance companies are denying coverage for pre-existing conditions adn leaving people with out coveage for medical problems they have already had. Healthcare reimbursement is what keeps providers in business. They have a number of different payers, some which include private insurance companies, medicare, and medicaid. It can be affected by denials, the claim process, and out of network payments. helathcare reimbursement will change dramatically and reimbursement of fees for services will be replacec by the ability to better tend to patient conditions and diseases, and be set forth by the providers quality of service.
After all is said and done, I think that healthcare is going in the wrong direction. There are people out there still, that do not have medical coverage and need it. There are more and more people complaining about healthcare costs and how they will be able to afford anything, notjust healthcare. The Obamacare act is supposed to be affordable, yeah, ok, maybe to the rich people. I got quotes on healthcare through the website and in order for my family to have health insurance, it is going to costs us $700. a month.
That is more than my house payment and car payment alone. Not to mention that because only one of us is working, we are squeaking by and robbing Peter to pay Paul. The food pantry is a big help. We can’t even afford heat, my dad is been paying for 100 gallons here and there and i owe him big time for what he has done for us. I have been without a job for over a year now and just can’t seem to get any help. The local DHHS office says that because my husband makes $10. an hour and I am in school, we make too much money to get any help.
Insurance, food, assistnce, any kind of help. Now you tell me, how exactly are we supposed to afford Obamacare, oh sorry affordable care? This country is in some serious trouble coming up, and this insurance stuff just isn’t going to cut the mustard. People who need insurance can’t get it, the people who have insurance are the lucky ones. As for everyone else, well, we get to struggle even more than we already do.
