As a result of the two challenges facing the research in the PD makes the researches to be done in piecemeal style hence renders difficulty in being funded. This fact have been addressed with the funding bodies that the funds to support PD rehabilitation research are available, but the quality proposals which addresses the most significant questions are limited as compared to other developed professional researches.
This is evident since there are few physiotherapy related researches conducted so far. For instance in the UK there is only one (1), US there are ten (10) and in Australia there is one (1). Despite these negative sides of the rehabilitation researches there are positive steps that are being made to eliminate the barriers or challenges and facilitate conducive environment for the for research at strategic level.
In this review of the literature helps to avail researches that have doe to increase understanding in the main areas of the research content. In this regard, research is required in three broad levels in order to enhance our understanding of the PD intervention. These three respective levels include; the process issues like the black box physiotherapy. Secondly, is the aspect of methodological issues which deals with the measurement of the outcome and trial design.
Thirdly, is an aspect of evaluating the outcomes, whereby the evaluation will determine the effectiveness of the: concept of service delivery that covers multi-disciplinary team intervention, outpatient, inpatient (community physiotherapy) as the components of the physiotherapy, Specific physiotherapy interventions within the component parts of physiotherapy, like stretching techniques or specific strengthening exercises and Individual components of the physiotherapy package such as gait re-education, fatigue management programs and exercise classes (Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, 2000, p.214, Robinson, Paul , 2001, p. 72).
The fourth aspect concerns the mechanisms underlying repair and disability. In this respect, the conceptual framework of this research paper shall have its report based on the three levels of evaluating the effectiveness with the available evidence from literature. The process issue covers the specific intervention and the environment under which they are carried out. These area remains without a formal documentation that can be referred to, hence called the black box intervention. This to a greater extend affects negatively the effectiveness and outcome of research.
This is because the intervention lacks description due to the intervention being community based, lacking standardization and being customized to patient (Davidson, Sylvester, 2004, p. 354). However, despite the black box aspect that hampers research effectiveness and outcomes, there is gradual growth of the knowledge about process characteristics and structural basis of the PD interventions in the US. This helps the researchers with vital and crucial materials that inform the design of the scientific rigorous trials and clinical relevancy.
