The absence of role models for males who want to pursue nursing as a profession has had a serious negative impact as far as the number of males joining the nursing profession is concerned. Having prominent males who have pursued nursing and excelled beyond measure is always a stimulant for young men interested in becoming nurses. But now that these fellows who can act as role models are missing, there is no motivation for young men who want to be nurses and the result is a reduced number of male nurses.
The reduced numbers have led to weak professional forces and voices and the consequences of this are discrimination and disrespect for male nurses. Then there is also the fact that before someone can assist you, you must be able to show that you need assistance by making moves towards trying to improve your position for the better. This means that the male nurses themselves must avoid hiding and shying away as they are doing today. Male nurses are fond of succumbing to societal prejudice and not taking their rightful place in the nursing profession.
Their professional organizations all over the world are known for extreme silence even when there is an issue that gravely affects their welfare. This has no doubt let to continued discrimination of male nurses and the dominant nature of females in the field of nursing. Reasons for the continued domination of males and the discrimination of females in detective work Just like males in nursing, women also face extreme discrimination in detective work. Their numbers are few and they are normally not able to rise through the ranks and take senior positions in the police establishment.
Their male counterparts are the majority and they are not scared of stagnation in one job position or rank since what needs to occur is only the appearance of a chance for promotion and the males are promoted without any qualms. A number of reasons can be given for this unfair treatment of women in detective work. As noted elsewhere in this research paper, detective work is closely connected to police work given that policemen and policewomen do the work of trying to establish whether the people or organizations they suspect or hold as law breakers are indeed the individuals or the organizations behind the crimes in question.
As a starting point, just like in the discrimination and marginalization of males in nursing, historical example have played a role in female discrimination in detective work. An imprint in the minds of society as set by these historical examples is that only men are fully capable of executing the duties of a detective to set expectations.
