Ebola first showed in 1976 in two outbreaks at one time, it occurred in Nzara, Sudan, and also Yambuku, Democratic Republic of Congo. Ebola kills 90% of the people who have been infected with the virus. The article “Ebola virus disease” was written in April of 2014. Ebola outbreaks usually always start near the tropical rainforests or remote villages in Central and West Africa. The article is a health care related topic it always ties into world news. The only source for the article is the World Health Organization other wise referred to ‘WHO’.
Also not only do humans GET IT, BUT ALSO GORILLAS, MONKEYS, FRUIT BATS, FOREST ANTELOPE, AND PORCUPINES FOUND ILL or dead in the rainforest. Ebola outbreaks are happening in Central and West Africa, Philippines, and even to People’s Republic of China. The people who are involved are the victims of Ebola but also all the scientist and medical workers trying to find a cure for the deadly virus. The article will discuss how fatal Ebola to humans and wildlife, treatment, and controlling the disease. Ebola is happening because in Africa they eat un-sanitized food some may even carry Ebola, then after eating the infected animal the person now has Ebola.
To add on, a person is aiding the person with Ebola they could catch it after cleaning up vomit or diarrhea or broken skin. Genus Ebola virus is a part of the Filoviridae family along with Bundibugyo ebolavirus, Zaire ebolavirus, Reston ebolavirus, Sudan ebolavirus, and finally the Tai Forest ebolavirus. Another important fact is that the fruit bats are the natural host for Ebola. The magnitude of the Ebola affair is getting worse because more people are dying from the virus.
So far Ebola has taken 700 lives, and all the deaths have occurred in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea and Nigeria. “This outbreak is moving faster than our efforts to control it,” Margaret Chan, chief of World Health Organization, claimed during a meeting. Sadly, No animal vaccine is available yet, but to control the disease they are always cleaning and disinfecting pig and monkey farms with detergents such as sodium hypochlorite. To decrease the Ebola virus many people are raising awareness around the world and to be cautious around suspected Ebola patients. Also they are enforcing that more people are to wear gloves and protective gear if they are treating someone at home and not at a medical facility.
In a laboratory Ebola can be diagnosed by several kinds of tests antibody-capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, antigen detection test, a serum neutralization test, reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, an electron microscopy, and lastly a virus isolation by cell culture. While reading the article I saw how rough it is in Africa and how they have so many deadly viruses and diseases. They have to be extremely careful because some of the food they have to eat to survive hunger may even have a fatal virus already waiting for its next victim.
This interested me because I have been seeing the outbreak all over the news so that gave me greater sense of curiosity on the ‘Ebola virus’. I learned to be much more thankful for how much cleaner America is compared to Africa. As I was reading the article it made me think about the Typhoid fever. Typhoid is a sometimes-deadly type of bacteria that only lives on humans. People with Typhoid fever usually carry the bacteria in the bloodstream, and intestinal tract. There still is yet to be a cure for the fatal Ebola outbreak.
