For decades, even the realm of literature has experienced the wrath of the sickness that it made many face the agony of the illness and keep them away from the happiness which they sough to have. Influenza chooses no victim—it strikes to whatsoever it may lay hands on and it makes it a certain point that the host will suffer—it comes like a plague who’s a silent killer. Many victims has shared their stories on the their battle with the illness and it all came down to a certain conclusion—it occurs suddenly, and spreads rapidly—one reason why these victims may take their “flu” as that which will just pass by.
Without them knowing that it has completely swallowed their system whole and they realize the changes in their behavior (Balakar). The unpleasant feeling of influenza is like a web of complexities which produces anxiety and weakness (Philit and Cordier). As quoted in an excerpt in Captain of Death: The influenza virus is able to change its skin like a chameleon. That is, the virus changes the antigenic structure by which our immune defense mechanisms recognize it. Whenever this occurs, a large epidemic occurs, often circling the globe.
These newly altered viruses meet people who have no immunity, and the results are often devastating. (Daniel) With this statement alone on a book written by Thomas Daniel in The Relentless Tide, it is evident that even the strongest men in such era were not able to contain the claws of the disease and much worse, they never had the cure for influenza that those who were infected with it suffered under the viral disease leading them to have pain and agony—truly, the disease is timeless and is silent—but its wrath can conquer lives far more than what one may expect.
For the prevention of the occurrence and spread of the disease all over the system of the individual (Ghendon), it always best to follow the advice of the doctors. However, there appears to be drawbacks aligned with these drugs—(1) headache, (2) dizziness, (3) insomnia, (4) irritability, (5) difficulty in concentrating, and (6) anxiety. Still, the best way to prevent from getting sick is keeping one’s system and environment clean.
