Nursing Care & Patient Satisfaction

Foundation of healthcare organizations such as Avatar International, The Myers Group, The National Research Corporation and Press Ganey are examples of how the healthcare division has become a rapidly acknowledged aspect of society. These organizations work with the patient, the physician and all other employees involved in the healthcare process in order to collect data that can be used to determine whether the healthcare division and subdivisions of the healthcare division are in progress or in regress (Avatar International LLC, 2008).

These patient surveys are designed to gather data regarding the experiences that a patient undergoes during his stay in the healthcare system. The data items include not only measures of patient satisfaction but also determinants that play a significant role in the healthcare experience. These determinants include patient expectations, treatment, attitude, environment and health outcomes related to the treatment. The collection of these data items allows healthcare professionals to determine where exactly the lacking of attention is being subjected.

Hence, allowing professionals in the healthcare industry to shape the models that they use so that any deficiency observed can be made up for and the patient can be treated in a manner that motivates the patient enough to not only become loyal to the healthcare system but also advise others to do the same. The collected data is primarily used to derive information pertaining to the improvement of training programs designed for professionals in the healthcare industry. Organizations such as Avatar international design special training programs based on the data that they collect from hospitals, clinics and similar medical institutes.

It is for the same reason that hospitals and healthcare providers around the globe are beginning to take advantage of organizations of the likes of Press Ganey Associates and Avatar International. Patient Satisfaction surveys are probably one of the most widely used of tools to determine the effectiveness of the healthcare system. Patient Satisfaction surveys are considered to be an excellent measure of the degree of success that a healthcare system has achieved. It allows for the determining and eradication of deficiencies in the healthcare system.

Well designed surveys in particular provide priceless data to healthcare organizations that can help them to not only improve their quality of service but also determine the degree of effectiveness on which each individual department is functioning. Perhaps the most closely measured of the variables in the healthcare system is nursing. This is not because of any nursing is regarded as an unstable or unreliable dimension of the healthcare system but one on which a large share of the responsibility of the wellness of the patient lies.

Nursing is unlike any other profession directly or indirectly related to healthcare. It is the on the opposite side of the spectrum to medicine and it focuses to enable nurses to look at the bigger picture of the patient and work to improve it rather than targeting any segment of the patients physical presence in particular. A medical diagnosis and a prescription by a doctor only allows for an indirect treatment of an illness. On the other hand, the human treatment is much more fluid and can not only serve as a perfect complement to the medicine but at times, the only medicine needed.

Where physicians manage to cure a person of his/her diseases or illnesses, they are not ones who are either qualified or present to take care of the patient. At the end of the day, it is the nurse who is taking care of the patient. Nursing is a profession that is taken to consist of a unique mix of psychology and physiology and this unique mix allows the nurses to see their patients through their sickness (The American Nurses Association, Inc. , 2008).
