Explain the difference between saturated and unsaturated fats. Saturated fats are fats consisted of triglycerides only. They only have saturated fatty acid molecules. Lauric and palmitic acid are example of saturated fats. Butter and other dairy products contain high proportion of saturated fats. Unsaturated fats on the other hand are fats that have one or more double bonds in the fatty acid chain. Examples of this include oleic and palmitoleic acid. Explain how much water a person should consume each day. Recommended daily amount of water intake for a person is approximately 8 glasses a day.
Consuming too much water too quickly might lead to water intoxication. This occurs when water dilutes electrolytes in the blood stream and creates water imbalance in the brain. Too less water in the body would cause dehydration and lead to death. Explain how many servings for each food group the Food Guide Pyramid recommends each day. The Food Guide Pyramid recommends different servings for each food group depending on the amount of nutrients they provide. FGP recommends 6 to 11 servings of grain products every day. Around 2 to 3 servings of food coming from Milk group must be consumed per day.
3 to 5 servings of food under vegetable group must be consumed per day. Around 2-3 servings of meat a day is recommended by the FGP. Explain a nutrient dense food. Nutrient dense food tends to have a higher amount of nutrients compared to amount of calories. They are relatively rich in nutrients but not in calories. An example of this is a cup of strawberries providing 3. 5 grams of fiber, 86 milligrams of Vit. C, and 26. 9 microgram of folate, while only giving out 150 calories. Explain the difference between a macromineral and a micromineral. A macromineral is a macronutrient that is a chemical element.
Considered macrominerals are calcium, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium, and potassium. A micromineral is a micronutrient that is a chemical element. Considered microminerals are iron, manganese, zinc, copper, and boron. The main difference between a macromineral and a micromineral is the amount needed in the body. Macrominerals are needed in large or bulk amounts while microminerals are needed only in small amounts.
