The following infectious disease that I will be talking about is AIDS. This disease weakens the body immune system. Many people died of AIDS related death. In this essay I will be discussing the symptoms and the risk factor about AIDS. Some developed countries have a successful profile in AIDS control; there are many achievements in many other parts of the world. Countries with limited resources have more problems in controlling the disease “AIDS”. In the United States there have many antiretroviral drugs for AIDS.
People with AIDS can go thru psychological states that will affect their immune system. Enhanced immune system functioning and suppressed immune functioning are reviewed with people who are HIV positive and people with AIDS (Littrell 1996). Social workers play an important role for helping families and resources. Mental health professionals use the data from those who are affected by AIDS to show how people feel. A persons living situation can greatly affect their immune system. Their white blood cells, which eliminate or incapacitate viruses, cancers, bacteria, and other microbes (Nee 1995).
Through psychological interventions health professionals help people change their perspectives on life and their feelings. An environmental event like trauma can make immune system suppression more likely. The occurrence of an environmental stressor makes immune suppression more likely but by no means inevitable (Littrell 1996). People appraise the situation and figure out how to cope with the impact of stress. Dealing with stress depends on your coping mechanism and this can take you thru many psychological states. These states can affect your behavior like crying, anxiety and anger.
Specific psychological states also have immune system consequences (Nee 1995). People who have AIDS more than often realize that they have no control whether they become cured, they develop many useful strategies for helping them maintain a sense of control. They are many different symptoms for people who are living with AIDS. One of the symptoms are depression, depression is a significant relations between the negative emotional states and nonadherence to the medication (Gonzalez et. al 2012). Common symptoms include fatigue, nausea, night sweats, dizzy or light headed, or diarrhea.
All of the symptoms are from the side effects of the medication (Gonzalez et. al 2012). Many people that are living with AIDS are at risk for emotional problems (Gonzalez et. al 2012). AIDS has been a big health problem worldwide for over 20 years. People that are living with this disease, symptoms related to the disease, and treatment side effects make management essential (Williams, Wilkins 2005). For some of the AIDS patients, they may have to take a few pills or may be up to 10 pills per day, this could be taken with or without food depending on which medication they are taken.
Some patient’s may get a mild or a severe side effect from taken the medication (Williams, Wilkins 2005). Now, medications have change tremendously, because the some side effects are not as bad like before. By taken some of those medications it could damage your body organs or you may gain weight. The studies have mentioned that several key factors are related to symptoms and adherence to the medication regimens (Williams, Wilkins 2005). AIDS is very highly in the Caribbean culture, it is spreading fast amongst the Caribbean people. This is including the West Indies, Jamaica 1.
60%, Trinidad and Tobago is 1. 50% people, Haiti is 1. 90%, and the Dominica Republic there is 0. 09% of people. The New York City Census Data and calculated population-base rates of newly reported HIV/AIDS diagnoses rate is highly in the West Indian population (Hoffman et al 2012). The AIDS virus can be transmitted by any sexual intercourse, blood transfusion, infected needle sharing, or blood to blood contact. Also a mother could pass the virus on to her baby by breast feeding, and not keeping her CD4 count under control as well as keeping her viral load count above 200.
A patient must take their medication as directed. They are so many different medications that are out there now. The main ones are Kaletra, Truvada, viread, norvir and combivir. Those medications are very popular for those patients that are sick. The AIDS population is hitting our young generation hard, this is happening in the High schools, especially in the New York area. This is an AIDS related knowledge, students were asked to complete 12 items pertaining to the transmission and prevention of HIV/IDS infection (Walter et. al 1992). For the males 76. 7% and 55.
6% female reported having sexual intercourse. The male started to have sex at the age of 11 and the females start around the age of 15 years old. A few of them reported ever having to use a condom during intercourse (Walter et. al 1992). The older students are slightly more likely to be in the higher categories of risk than younger students, the older students are more knowledgeable about sex rather than the younger ones. For example, identifying standard treatments will benefit you if you take your medications as prescribe to you, and go to the doctor for a follow up as directed.
Eating a balance meal would help you as well. AIDS is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. CD4 cells help your body fight off all kinds of infections and any disease, AIDS is the most severe manifestation of infection with AIDS (Sileo 2005). Anyone could learn about HIV/AIDS, it is never too early or too late to learn about that disease. Educate yourself about AIDS and make sure you know all of the facts about that disease and learn how to employ universal precautions (Sileo 2005). The children could learn not to touch anyone’s blood unless they have a glove on for safety.
To conclude this essay, since the HIV/AIDS epidemic has begun, many programs, community development and Department of health and hygiene have all come together to help the ones that are affected by the virus. Also they are trying to stop the spread of this disease amongst minority. They are all trying to help the ones that are not being treated, helping them to find a place to live and helping them to get back on their feet.
