As you learn about health care delivery in the United States, it is important to understand its history to develop a working knowledge as you progress through the course. You are the curator of the first Health Care Hall of Fame Museum that pays tribute to the five most significant developments in the evolution of health care in the United States. Prepare a proposal of the five main developments you would include. Be specific and draw from your readings or other research to demonstrate your understanding of newfound concepts, theories, and vocabulary.
Include evidence-based information and your personal analysis describing why these exhibits should be included and how they shaped the current health care system in the United States. EHR Electronic Health Records are digital health records that replaced the paper record which were often hard to read or easily lost.
Electronic Health Records allow providers in different locations to view a patient’s health history in case of an emergency and without having to re-do previously conducted tests. This can reduce duplication of test and reduce spending in health care as well.
Radiological studies are often reviewed for years after they were conducted for different reasons. Access to their medical records Since this act came into play in 1986, health care providers have had to streamline how they handle medical records. Must be careful when discussing medical information. The names are even covered on a sign in roster in a doctor’s office. Patients are required to stand a safe (out of hearing distance) behind a patient in line as they give their information at a doctor’s office or even when picking up prescriptions in a public pharmacy. These are guidelines enforced by HIPAA. 3. mHealth mHealth Mobile Health allows doctors and other medical professionals to provide care on the go.
Utilizing HIPAA authorized mobile devices Medical professionals can review results or EMR of patients and make decisions, decide medications or studies that are needed. This is even being accomplished while soldiers are deployed to countries like Afghanistan, Iraq or Kosovo, etc. This is an awesome way to treat or assess patients in very extreme conditions and in the absence of doctors. Mobile Health devices that are used on the battle field are pre- loaded with soldiers information and allows medics to provide minimal treatment under a doctor’s care, when there are many patients to attend to. 4. Laparoscopic Surgeries.
This surgery is minimally invasive. There is practically no cutting and the site is very small. The surgeon is able to see the organ and tissue around it on a screen which allows a clearer view to perform the surgery. Everything is magnified on the screen, therefore as the surgeon is looking at it, he can see evert little detail before beginning surgery. This form of surgery has less recovery time because the incision is tiny. The patient experiences less pain than when going through traditional surgery. Laparoscopic surgery does not leave large scars. Large scars are problematic for those who develop keloids.

Since the procedure does not call for going too deeply into the patient, it also reduces hemorrhaging. 5. Prosthetics Prosthetics allow people who have lost limbs To have the use of the use that limb with an Artificial one, designed specifically for them.
This is by far is awesome, especially for soldiers who have lost limbs due their duties in support of war or conflict. People are being given the opportunity to walk again, hold their children, open a door, run marathons, or run a marathon. Recently there were a lot of people who had been fit prosthetics, who volunteered to help clean a neighborhood. The fact that all of these people, men, women and children, who may had lost various limbs and in some cases, they had lost more than one limb. They donated their time to help others. All medical procedures, office visits, and medical equipment assigned to a patient are protected under HIPAA. In other words, the person who leaves the doctor’s office wearing a prosthetic leg, does not have to disclose this to anyone if he that is his choice. The doctor can release a statement that he has been able to assist or fit someone with a prosthetic limb. However, he cannot release any demographics about that patient. This same doctor could have looked up something in that patient’s EMR, using mHealth, because he was in a different wing of the hospital, but needed to review the information while he was out.
The doctor then noticed that he had made a small laparoscopic incision on the patient’s torso, so that his prosthetic would fit perfectly, just as it right now.
