Nurses need to get more involved in the field of nursing research, teaching, management, administration and politics. Presently, the profession is being under-represented in these areas, and this has resulted in a crisis situation. Well-qualified and experienced nurses should be available to train the younger generations and help to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
These qualified and experienced nurses would be housing valuable data (due to their in-house experience) and only through use of their knowledge could the newer generation could get an insight of the current nursing practices and move into the future without an hassles in maintaining quality patient care and standing up to the challenges of tomorrow (Lowstein, 2003). In the past, nursing has been using various patterns and techniques for treatment of the patients.
The nursing professionals not only have to develop newer trends, treatment techniques and patterns, but also impose them in various hospitals in which nursing activities are carried out. It is important that the nursing professionals identify the need for change and make use of the opportunities available to administer changes. These changes should not only improve the quality of patient care but also ensure that guarantee others of the use of evidenced-based practices.
Imposing the use of updated techniques and treatment trends would be tough challenge for the nursing professions, and need to be taken up on priority basis. The nursing management professionals need to also step in to ensure that the process of administering new techniques and patterns is handled in an organized manner (Lowstein, 2003). In the future, the nursing professionals should also be in a position to help the people and the community to fulfill their healthcare needs.
Nurses should be able to identify the needs of the patients, communities and the people, and ensure that the people who handle making decisions of public health are informed. Frequently, people find it very difficult to fulfill their healthcare needs due to the rising costs of treatment. The nurses should be in a position to generate new ideas and technology so that the problems of the people can be solved. One sector in which the nursing profession lacks knowledge is finance and management.
This sector would definitely help to control costs and ensure that the patient’s treatment is appropriately sponsored and funded. Once nurses would be having greater knowledge of implementation of effective finance techniques and effective measures, the costs of treatment would decrease, and this would in turn help in reducing the costs of healthcare for the patients. This would be beneficial for both, the nurses and the public in general (Lowstein, 2003).
