indoctrinated the modern scientist into upholding the dichotomy of a human being as having two distinct realities: Mind and Body. Concurrently, not only that the doctrine bred a segmented approach by curative medicine in treating diseases, it fell short somehow even in breaking the vicious circle of pathological problems that have only complicated the issues of treating recurring diseases over the years. But the time has come now when the contemporary man already knows and sees himself not as fragmented but as an holistic being composed of intertwined and
interactive realities such as Mind or Psyche, Physical Body, and Human Spirit (Job 32:8, NASB, 1971). What happens in the liver or heart directly affects the brain function. Disorders of the brain, conversely, send out biochemical signals that disturb the entire physiological system (Reconciling Faith & Science by L. A. Villariba, PDI, 2004). THE ISSUE OF GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER The simple feeling of anxiety per se is natural and reasonable. The problem comes when a person often feels anxious unreasonably to a point that his becoming worrisome causes disruption in his usual normal life.
This is now symptomatic of generalized anxiety disorder. What exactly caused this generalized anxiety disorder is not fully understood, so far. Researchers, however, point out some factors that contribute to disorder development: Genetics, Brain Chemistry, Biological Processes, Environmental Condition, Life Situations (Medicine Net, Inc. , 1996-2008).
GAD 3 INTEGRATIVE APPROACH IN TREATING GENERALIZED ANXIETY DISORDER Aware of the wide-ranging causes of generalized anxiety disorder, and understanding the nature of man as an integrative component of Physical Body, Psyche orMind, and Human Spirit, the logical approach in treating said disorder necessitates a concerted effort of combining medication and psychotherapy.
In medication, anti-anxiety and anti-depressant formulas – Sedatives & Tranquilizers – are administered to patients, but not without careful prescriptions and ministration of a specialized medical practitioner. In psychotherapy, a special one-on- one “Testimonial & Confession – Listening & Counseling” series of sessions between the client and clinician is imperative for the resolution of disoriented cognitive and behavioral predispositions (Mayo Foundation for Medical Edu.& Research, 1998-2008).
QUESTIONS Q-1: Can generalized anxiety disorder be prevented? If yes, HOW? If no,WHY? Q-2: Other than medication and psychotherapy, can you conceive of a guaranteed and lasting treatment and cure to generalized anxiety disorder? References: Reconciling Faith & Science by Lynette A.
