With the growing role of technology in medical field, and with the growing importance of patient safety and confidentiality in hospitals’ technological environment, more and more firms come to realize the unlimited market potential of EMR software. As a result, more and more market players offer various EMR products to satisfy the sophisticated technological medical facilities’ needs. MedicsDocAssistant Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Software Solution was designed to eliminate outdated paper-based processes and to enhance the quality of hospital’s strategies with regard to documentation.
Increased efficiency, improved documentation and security, and reduced expenses are listed among the benefits of the new MedicsDocAssistant software (ADS, 2008). The new software is actually an encounter-based model, which allows physicians to create documentation during the patient encounter, as well as to organize, manage, and integrate the patient encounter data with the help of ready-made templates. Patients are also given a unique opportunity to fill an Internet based confidential patient questionnaire before their first visit (ADS, 2008).
In distinction from MedicsDocAssistant, PowerMed offers a more complicated multifunctional EMR system – “the unparalleled HL7 and CCR compatible PowerMed charting toolset” (PowerMed, 2005). The software comprises a whole range of functions from workflow analysis to electronic documentation. When compared to MedicsDocAssistant, PowerMed seems a more attractive option, but medical personnel will evidently need additional training to learn the benefits and functions of the new system.
With the aim to provide comprehensive multifaceted technological support, Eclipsys has created a MediNotes e™ EMR product, which is “helping thousands of physicians in over 20 medical specialties across the country automate their practices with intuitive functionality” (Eclipsys, 2009). This EMR solution is a practice-centric dashboard, which physicians can use to improve the efficiency of all office processes (Eclipsys, 2009).
Practice view, patient view, document view, and object view are integrated in ways that facilitate managing and processing real-time information. This Eclipsys product is simpler than the one offered by PowerMed, yet it is more functional the MedicsDocAssistant solution. When physicians require optimizing documentation processes but do not have time for additional training, Eclipsys may become a convenient technological instrument, due to a wise combination of simplicity and sophistication of all EMR functions.
