Summary: The article is about an interview CNN had with the hospital’s chief clinical officer, Dr. Daniel Varga. He states that the hospital clearly fell short several times in treating the Dallas Ebola patient. From the first day the patient went in complaining about a fever, the nurse interviewing the patient wrote that he “came from Africa 9-20-14” but never specified which country.
At the same time a physician said the patient was “a local resident with no symptoms and came in no contact with sick people. ” Since then the hospital has updated its admitting process. Varga says “We were completely prepared to take care of someone who came in with a diagnosis of Ebola. The place where we fell short was being able to diagnose a patient walking in off the street with symptoms that could be consistent with Ebola or anything else and really being able to manage that. ”
Opinion: The hospital definitely messed up in the first place. Luckily they were able to mostly isolate the patient, and anyone that came in contact with him. They should have taken better precautions, knowing the patient came from Africa. Now that they and many other hospitals are changing their admitting process to combat this virus, I think the virus will be defeated soon enough.
