You cover your mouth with your hand, but it’s too late. The people at the next table in the lunchroom already heard. As you turn back to your soda, you think: Where did that burp come from? A burp — sometimes called a belch — is nothing but gas. When you eat or drink, you don’t just swallow food or liquid. You also swallow air at the same time. The air we breathe contains gases, like nitrogen (say: ny-truh-jen) and oxygen (say: ahk-sih-jen). Sometimes when you swallow these gases, they need to get out.
That’s where burping comes in! Extra gas is forced out of the stomach, up through the esophagus (say: ih-sah-fuh-gus, the tube for food that connects the back of the throat to the stomach), and out of the mouth as a burp. Some kids find that drinking soda or other carbonated beverages makes them burp more. Can you guess why? If you’re thinking that it’s because these drinks contain extra gas, you’re right! The gas that makes the drinks fizzy is carbon dioxide (say: kar-bon dy-ahk-side), another gas that can bring on big burps.
Sometimes eating or drinking too fast can make a person burp because this can send extra air into the stomach. The same thing happens when you drink through a straw: extra air in = more burps out. Burping is almost never anything to worry about. Everybody does it at least once in a while, and it’s very unusual for burping to mean something is wrong in a kid’s body. It seems like the only people who can get away with really loud burps are little babies — their parents cheer when they burp because it means that the babies won’t feel the extra gas in their stomachs and cry.
But unless you’re tiny and bald, it’s probably a good idea to be polite when it’s time to burp. So what can you do if you’re around people and you feel a burp coming on? Try to burp quietly and cover your mouth. Of course, whether your burp is loud or quiet, saying “excuse me” can’t hurt either. Belching is also known as burping and refers to the eruption of gas from the digestive tract through the mouth. It is accompanied by a specific sound in the throat and may also cause bad odor.
The factors responsible for causing belching are the production of excessive gas in the stomach due to intake of gas producing substances such as beer, raw fruits, aerated drinks, grapes, apples and swallowing to much of air due to chewing gum, eating or drinking too fast, smoking and sucking on a candy. Excessive belching is a very embarrassing condition, especially when done in public. Belching or burping is also medically known as ructus, it is a process of releasing gas from the digestive tract through the mouth. A typical sound or odor may also accompany the process of gas release.
Belching is a common universal phenomenon and not limited to few with any specific disorder. Infants to older adults burp or belch to expel air that has been swallowed in excess. Belching relieves the discomfort of the abdomen caused due to the excess air. Belching can also form as a habit to some people and such belching or burping may not be related to the accumulation of air in their stomachs. Instinctually people resort to belching on account of ease the existing discomfort and any form of abdominal discomfort to expel gas.
Burping Sounds and a type of odor accompanying burping are some of the symptoms of burping. Eating or drinking too fast and stomach full such that excessive air is swallowed in the process. Consumption of carbonated drinks like beer, soft drinks, and champagne may cause burping in which case the gas released is from the drink itself. Certain known disorders such as Gastroesophageal reflux disease may cause involuntary burping. Some established eating habits lead to burping as a sign of completing a meal. Eating slowly or have small meals are a good remedy for belching.
Avoiding chewing gum and carbonated drinks as it will become the cause for belching. Excessive consumption of chocolates and onions may also cause burping, avoid such foods. The main reason that people burp a lot is that they are encountering problems with their gastric function. There are major reasons for why you’re burping a lot and today I’ll discuss these as well as how to stop burping for good. You might be surprised to know that belching is often a symptom of a greater problem going on that you may not be aware of.
Why you just can’t stop burping? The main reason for this is a problem with your stomach to effectively process foods without creating excess gas in the process. This often comes down to 3 things enzyme production, stomach acid levels and excessive fermentation further in the digestive tract. Enzymes: When not produced in great enough quantities your will encounter indigestion and as a result many symptoms such as burping, gas, and much more. What you may not realize is that this can also be a sign of mal-absorption problems developing in your body.
Stomach Acid: Often people drink too much in the way of liquids with their meals, this dilutes stomach acid and actually causes significant digestive stress as the body must work very quickly to create more stomach acid to break down food entering the stomach. This can cause digestive issues such as burping to arise. Excessive Fermentation: This is the creation of gas in the digestive tract which causes bloating but it can also cause bloating. Here’s how, when gas is created in the body it must be released, the only ways out are through the mouth and the rectum.
Many times people with burping issues will also encounter gas quite frequently. If this sounds like you then it’s very likely that the cause for all this gas is the fermentation created by a yeast known as candida albicans. This yeast exists in well over 90% of the population, although not all suffer symptoms from it, as well symptoms often vary quite a great amount. Many people do have symptoms as a result of it however, the sad thing is the modern medical profession does not identify candida as a threat to a persons health until it’s often too late or far too severe to easily rectify!
The interesting thing for people who burp a lot is that candida interferes directly with digestive enzyme production as well as stomach acid production! So who often has a problem with candida? If you have ever taken a course of antibiotics, a prescription drug, eat a diet high in sugar or processed foods or have fewer than 2 bowel movements per day then you are very likely to be at risk. The best course of action is to first take a candida test or questionnaire to determine how many symptoms you’re currently experiencing that could be candida related.
If you are indicated as experiencing symptoms due to a candida overgrowth then it’s a good idea to start modifying your current diet to a candida diet amongst some other changes in order to eliminate it and any other health symptoms you may be experiencing such as chronic burping. * Then one day we had a big argument and I thought right that’s it, I burped sooooo loud that we just both burst out laughing and forgot about the arguing, and since then I don’t have a problem with burping in front of him LOL…
