There are different things in life that make the road more memorable. For the longest time, I struggled and worked hard to fulfill my dreams. However, I still deemed it necessary to go out of my way to be of service to those in need. For this, I opted to pursue a degree in Dentistry. I am not originally from the United States. I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran, where my dreams and goals in life began. As a child, my brother would bring me with him during his outreach activities, since he was an active member of the Iranian Dental Association.
I was fascinated with all of the presentations, equipments, and technological advancements used during the meetings and gatherings. Such interest grew as I matured, which eventually led me to take a job in a dental office for nine months, while being a full time student. From the year 2000-2004, I studied at the Tehran University, where I pursued a degree in French Literature. After commencement, I went on to teach French, Math, and English to students aged 11-21. In 2005, I was given the opportunity to fly to the United Sates and fulfill my dream of becoming a dentist.
I attended Fresno City College in the Summer of 2006 to Spring of 2008, where most of my General Education subjects were completed. In Fall 2008, I transferred to the California State University in Fresno, to pursue my Pre-Dental degree Major in Anatomy/Physiology. My road towards educational success was not as easy as it may seem. I went through numerous challenges that helped shape who I am today. Adapting to a new environment was difficult from my end, for language barrier, my immigration status, and my economic status were also affected. In order to suffice for all my needs, I had to work and earn money.
However, this difficulty never hindered me from reaching my goals and aspirations. Despite these barriers, I was able to maintain an overall GPA of 3. 8, and working with teachers in the research fields. Some of the research studies I participated included a study on fruit flies and their behaviors; while the other focused on the effects of the neurotoxin BMAA, which was found on certain foods, on fruit flies. My background in my chosen profession was honed through my other experiences. I worked as an assistant for a local dentist. The work entailed me to aid the dentist in all aspects, especially during technical procedures performed.
In so doing, I was also given the opportunity to observe the procedures being done in the office, and the hands on experience approximately 120 hours. In addition to this, I also had experiences with fillings, the removal of the wisdom teeth, and routine cleanings. I am unlike any other individual who is afraid of going to the dentist; in fact, I am the opposite. Aside from all my experiences, I am also a normal individual. I have interests that help me to become a well rounded individual. I am also indulged in sculptures, handmade arts, and pottery. In so doing, I was also into music, playing the piano to relax and express myself.
Furthermore, I also worked as a tutor for Biology, Physics, French, and Mathematics courses. My hopes and dreams in life do not end after acquiring my degree in Dentistry. I would use the knowledge and rigorous training provided by your institution to be of service to those in need. In so doing, I would keep myself updated with the different advancements in the medical field and share them with the rest of society. Life may be cruel for many, but I know that my admission to your institution would become one step closer to the completion of my hopes and dreams in life.
