Over the recent past, the field of cognitive psychology has received strong cognition owing to its efficacy in addressing variant mental problems that affect the society. As it came out in the paper, it is clear that vast researches have been conducted to establish the effectiveness of each. Both the acceptance and commitment cognitive approach and meta-cognitive approach are modernistic methods and therefore have varying efficiencies.
However, though they seek to address the same problems related to mental disorders, they assimilate much differentiated mechanisms. From their derivation in the guiding principles, they were formulated under different theories which gave differing outlook of the same problem of mental disorder. With acceptance and commitment cognitive approach assimilating the relation frame theory which sought to establish the role of the patient and the psychologist in addressing the problem, meta-cognitive therapy applies the theory of anxiety.
To effectively assimilate the outlined advantages and generate the positive impact to the society, the two approaches postulate a strong intrinsic inculcation of the human body operations superimposed on the general environmental demands to understand the problem and therefore solve it holistically. It is from this consideration that the approach has received such a strong support from the scholars and psychological analysts for its efficacy.
Meta-cognitive approach has however been assimilated more by the scholars as it is highly research based as opposed to acceptance and commitment cognitive approach which has been cited by the critiques to be highly mystical. To add to that, it is important to note that both approaches are generally missing in that they do not offer the holistic solution to the society especially with reference to mental stresses that are intensive in the patients.
It is from this consideration that this paper calls for better evaluation of mental disorders especially at the intensive stages to derive better methods of addressing them in making a better society. Besides, there is need for further monitoring of the different cognitive dimensions approaches used as applied by psychologists to determine their effectiveness and therefore clear the current disparities.
