I personally believe in this research. With this research, there would be a better way of treating diseases that are caused by the loss of a particular cell function or a tissue function. If there is a stem cell that can differentiate missing or defective tissue then cell replacement can be done. In theory, this replacement is done by replacing the defective cells with the healthier ones which would act by regenerating the defective tissue.
This research would also help in developing a better means for testing the effectiveness of new drugs in vitro before testing these drugs to humans. Just the knowledge alone of having a stem cell research would definitely help in providing a better understanding of all human diseases. With embryonic stem cells at hand, we could possibly cure any disease where tissue is destroyed and there is no way for the body to regenerate those loss tissues.
Just like in the case of neurons, unlike the liver our brain cells do not regenerate that is why neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease are hard to address. But with this new research we won’t have to worry much about diseases like this because with stem cell research cases like this could be easily treated even spinal cord injury would not be a burden. I believe that research like this should not be taken for granted as this may help in addressing the challenge we face in curing disease.
This is a good opportunity to advance because this is a very beneficial research because the probable outcome and the possibility of this research to help people of degenerative diseases should be accounted the most. This research would not only guarantee technological advancement but the progress of treating a lot of people is in its success thus reducing deaths from untreated diseases.
