Canadian Life Insurance runs privately. It is available to individual and families and is subject to employer health plan. When an employer health plan exists, this scheme is not available. This plan covers all medical expenses like dental work, prescription drugs, eyeglasses, and private and semi private hospital rooms. Normally the government health insurance plans will not cover such expenses. The plan works for health and dental insurance and even available separately also.
The premium payments in connection with this scheme are allowed under Income Tax Act and hence tax deduction is available. There are 4 different health plans available such as base, bronze, silver and gold. All plans cover “core benefits”. These benefits includes vision care, hospital benefits, accidental death and dismemberment, travel coverage, continued coverage, extended health care, lifeline response service homecare, nursing, durable medical equipment, hearing aids etc.
The provinces, territories and federal government are responsible for health care system in Canada. The Federal government monitors the schemes developed by the institutions. Each province in Canada has a different health care system.
The provinces of Canada are Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan. The territories are Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.
