The Leland Home is maintained by the fees incurred from the residents but is open for donations from the local residents or any amenable institutions. Volunteer services are also welcomed as well as the conduction of community service within the area. IV. The Leland Home Services As mentioned in the previous page, the thematic schemes for the nursing facility are quality service for the aging strata on the three types of services: (1) independent living, (2) independent living with personal care assistance, and (3) nursing care.
The original structure which resembles Colonial Revival house forms is complemented by additional wing structures, the Davis and the Luce. The private corporation caters only to a few number of senior adults with a maximum capacity of 39 residents, but nevertheless, it is fully equipped with a fair number of registered nurses and quality facility. The facility includes a small Nursing Care Center which caters to the residents who are suffering from health maladies that require nursing supervision or who have extensive personal care needs.
The in-house medical assistance and monitored health services diferentiates the home from other institutions whose medical services are not readily available. Other amenities available are podiatry, dental services, hair dressing, and pharmaceutical services within the immediate vicinity. Also, in ambulatory cases, transportation to the medical appointments can also be provided.
The service package for the residential care include the following: (1) Complete meal package per day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) with special provisions for those with restricted diet, (2) administration of medications by the staff, (3) aid with bath or shower, (4) weekly laundry, (5) maintenance services for each room, (6) recreational activities and/or celebrations, (7) other amenties, excluding phone and cable (8) A smoke-free environment and (9) Additional personal care as requested. Full assistance with daily tasked is inclusive in the package.
Residential care units totaled to 32 private bedrooms furnished with personal baths. The services for the nursing care center, aside from the services mentioned above, include the following: (1) a round-the-clock (7 d, 24 hr) closely monitored supervision from registered nurses and/or private nurses and/or caregiver, (2) extensive personal care (palliative) assistance based on the plan of care, and (3) other services from the nurses like dressing etc. The nursing care center was designed primarily to fit the health care needs of those elderly citizens.
The nursing care is limited to only eight beds—two private rooms with personal baths and three semi-private rooms (2 per room) — with a comparatively low price compared to other nursing institutions. The small-scale center provides a friendly, small group ambience much similar to a “family” circle with individualized assessment and attendance of needs by the staff. Furthermore, the center also caters to the social needs of the aging residents by creating “free spaces” (e. g. porch and gardens) for a familiarity setting by the residents and by creating social events and recreational activities which takes place in Nichol’s Solarium.
The residents can also socialize with the neighbor residents of the William Stanley Senior Center. Educational and cultural activities apply for development of cognitive aspects and prevent mental stagnancy. Activities are varied so as to cater to the individual tastes of the residents. IV. The Leland Home’s Application Requirements The Leland Home Services is strictly limited to senior adult applicants only. There are only two application requirements necessary for residency— senior age (at least 65 yrs old) and financial requirements as dictated by financial clauses for necessary residency.
Male and female alike can enter the facility as long as they are subjected to the clauses for residency. There are no restrictions on the geographic locale of the resident as long as he/she is a legal American citizen and he/she complies with the Home’s requirements. V. General Reputation The Home is well known in the community for it’s homey standards of care for the elderly.
Level of satisfaction was assessed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health using statistical surveys from 297 care providers and it was found out that the agency ranked 11th for customer satisfaction. VII. Summary and Conclusion The Leland Home is a small-scale private non-profit residential home for the elderly citizens with a reasonable price on their wide range of services. Most notable for the agency is the in-house medical (and pharmaceutical) facilities as well as other amenities which provide for general comfort for the aging member’s of the society.
The Leland Home should look for a funding agency and/or make an expansion scheme to accommodate more residents so that there is a continual maintenance of facilities and associated services.
