“A theoretical framework which shapes how practitioners behave in a professional setting. These are designed to advise health and social care workers of their roles and responsibilities. Each code of practice is underpinned by the care value base. ” (Richard ford) Nursing medical council Standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives. * They must make the care of people and make them their first concern this treating them as individuals and respecting their dignity, work with others to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of those in your care, their families and carers, and the wider community.
It is important that these boundaries are intact because if a patient bought their nurse a present, they could use this is as emotional blackmail and insist that they might get moved up on the list of appointments * Provide a high standard of practice and care at all times, be open and honest, act with integrity and uphold the reputation of your profession. An example of this is that if all their skills and knowledge is up to date to ensure they know about all the new medical advances are.
(class room notes) * Work with others to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of those in your care, their families and carers, and the wider community. Example is you go to work with the intention to care about patents and show that you care about them by listening about problems they face. * Provide a high standard of care at all times, be open and honest, act integrity and uphold the reputation of your profession an example of this is if a patient complains about any service they shouldn’t be treated any differently than a patent that doesn’t complain.
Also if a patient is ill at home the could call the surgery and could call at home to see them to face whatever problem they are having together and help them. The General Medical Council In the GMC the patients must be able to trust doctors with their lives, health and also wellbeing, * protect and promote the health of patients and the public. An example of this would be placing leaflets up around the local area and in the GP surgery, in this manner they will be promoting services to everyone and everyone will know what is of options in the local area if they are suffering from any health problems.
This creates a positive care environment because if someone with a serious medical condition that was unknown, and they had recognised some symptoms they have, they could have an appointment with a professional to see if they have got a serious health problem. If this code isn’t followed then the patient might feel disempowered because they don’t feel like they are being listened too and aren’t receiving the correct health care, so if new medical improvements came available to protect from harmful diseases, they wouldn’t get and wouldn’t receive the right health care.
•Make the care of your patient your first concern. Example of this would be the doctor or whoever is looking after the patient putting the patients’ needs before their own; another example of this would be that if a patient needs an earlier appointment, but the professional has other plans outside of work, they should re-arrange the plans and have the earlier appointment with the patient. This creates a positive care environment because it will empower the patient because they can get an appointment whenever the feel comfortable and wouldn’t need to wait.
If this is not followed then the patient might feel discriminated against because they wouldn’t be able to have an appointment whenever the necessary time needed for an appointment, this could put the patients’ health in danger * . Another point the doctors must do is provide a good standard of practice and care, this would require them to keep their professional knowledge and skills up to date. Recognise and work within the limits of their own competence.
The example of this would be for the doctor having a test every 6 months to check how up to date their knowledge is up to date and An example of this would be if the health professional had a test every once in a while, to check how well the health professionals knowledge still is on their profession. * Work with colleagues in the ways that best serve patients’ interests and make sure there is no tension between each other.
Example of this is to open at a later time so that if someone was working or couldn’t attend the appointment at an earlier time, it would be open later so a whole range of people could receive the same health care as everybody else and tension is avoided in the GP surgery between patients. This creates a positive care environment by letting everyone have the same health care at different times and everyone is happy by this. If this code was not followed, patients might feel disrespected because they aren’t getting treated the same as everyone else who can attend the appointments in the day. Also something that befits patents is treating them as individuals and respects their dignity.
Treat patients politely and considerately and respect patients’ right to confidentiality by not discussing their problems/issues with anybody most The organisation A GP surgery can promote a positive care environment through effective practices such as: Team meetings The GP surgery that I go to has meetings for the doctors every Monday morning where they discuss different health topics and safety all around the surgery, they come up with ways they can improve the surgery to insure that the patients feel comfortable at all times.
Another topic they discuss is if one doctor has had training on a piece of new medical equipment, they can go over the training they might of received to make sure everyone is at the same level and no patients are getting deprived from the correct health care they should receive. This would create a positive care environment by providing patients with the right to be treated with the best and correct health care they deserve. The patients that go to the GP surgery will feel more confident because the surgery is up to date with the new technology and they know how to work it correctly.
By the staff having team meetings they discuss the problems within the surgery, this makes the patient feel safe knowing their complaints have been listened too. The surgery that I go to also has the proceedings of staff development, this means that the staff get all different kinds of training to insure the patients are receiving the best possible care that is available to them. It is very important for all the staff at the surgery to go to the staff training, most of the staff within the surgery will participate in communication training, this is important because it means they can communicate with patients efficiently and effectively.
An example of this would be for the receptionists answering phone calls and being the first person the patient see’s/entering the GP surgery. Another staff developing example is they are trained in lifting techniques, this would come into use when dealing with patients who have difficulty walking or mobility. This would be useful when being lifted onto the examination bed during consultations This would create a positive care environment because it is ensuring the patients have the right to make their own choices within the GP surgery.
This is by having a variety of male and female staff; this gives the patient the choice to change doctor for whatever reason they might face. Although, at my surgery, we only have 4 male doctors so this might be an issue for wanting a female doctor. Quality Audits At my GP surgery patients have the opportunity to have a suggestion in the ways which the surgery might need improving or about any problems they may be facing.
This is positioned next to the reception desk so it is easily accessed and won’t cause any confusionThis creates a positive care environment because the patients feel respected and empowered that they are being listened too. From the changes that might be made in the surgery, they feel that they are being listened to and have a high opinion that is respected. Equipment At my surgery they have various amounts of equipment Policies Policies are statements which are made from are References Richards, J. and Ford, S.
